GENDER, RACE & DEMOCRACY IN THE TRANSNATIONAL PERSPECTIVE ALTHOUGH EQUALITY IS CRITICAL TO DEMOCRACY AS AN IDEAL, SUBORDINATION AND MARGINALIZATION OFTEN MARK DEMOCRATIC POLITICS. THIS COURSE EXAMINES THE FOLLOWING QUESTIONS WITH A TRANSNATIONAL PERSPECTIVE: WHAT ARE FEMINIST CRITIQUES OF THEORIES AND PRACTICE OF DEMOCRACY? HOW DO FEMINISTS FROM ACROSS THE GLOBE ANALYZE ISSUES SUCH AS CITIZENSHIP, PARTICIPATION, AND JUSTICE? WHAT ARE MODELS OF MORE EGALITARIAN POLITIES AND HOW MIGHT THEY BE FOSTERED? THIS IS A HYBRID COURSE: MEETING IN PERSON ON TUESDAYS AND ONLINE ON THURSDAYS.
