LATINXS IN US EDUCATION: TESTIMONIO RESEARCH ROOTED IN LATIN AMERICA'S REVOLUTIO NS, TESTIMONIO IS A GENRE OF AUTHENTIC FIRST-PERSON NARRATIVES A ND COUNTER STORIES. IN THE UNITED STATES TESTIMONIO HAS BEEN USED AS RESEARCH METHODOLOGY AND PEDAGOGY BRINGING TO THE FRONT THE NARRATIVES OF LATINX STUDENTS WITHIN LARGER INSTITUTIONAL CONTEXTS, SUCH AS HIGHER EDUCATION. TESTIMONIO AS A PLATFORM, CHALLENGES WESTERN ACADEMIC NOTIONS OF TRUTH AND OBJECTIVITY BY OFFERING A COUNTER- NARRATIVE TO DOMINANT IDEOLOGIES. THIS SEMINAR STYLE COURSE WILL OFFER STUDENTS THE OPPORTUNITY TO ANALYZE KEY TESTIMONIO TEXTS, WHILE RESEARCHING AND DOCUMENTING THEIR OWN EDUCATIONAL JOURNEYS IN THE US HIGHER EDUCATION SYSTEM. Catalog Description:
Seminar on topics relevant to the field of gender, women, feminist, sexuality, and nation in contemporary and/or historical contexts. Students have the opportunity to engage with theories and methodologies that shape the field. Recommended: either GWSS 200, GWSS 302, or previous coursework in feminist studies.
