Kemi Adeyemi, Associate Professor of Gender, Women & Sexuality Studies and Director of The Black Embodiments Studio has been honored with the prestigious 2023 Andy Warhol Foundation Arts Writers Grant. The $935,000 grant, distributed among 27 writers, was awarded in acknowledgment of Adeyemi's upcoming book, Writing About Black Art, an illustrated writing manual designed to cultivate critical literacy in the interpretation and experience of black art. The book's distinctive approach intertwines practical guidance with discussions on identity formations, institutional politics, and global economic influences. Currently in peer review, Adeyemi’s book is forthcoming from the University of Washington Press.
